Tree Care

Protecting Your Investment

All trees go through stress and physical damage when bare rooted, transported and repotted/planted, so the best of care is needed to try and minimize this.

All bareroot deciduous stock needs to be protected from fungal and bacterial attack to guarantee the best results and performance of the stock.

Damaged material can let disease in so spraying of Copper based sprays is best done soon after delivery or straight after potting up, continuing use right up and through to budburst, followed by ‘Mancozeb’ in early spring.

Worst affected varieties for Pseudomonas Syringae ‘Blossom Blast’ are Pyrus, Liquidambers and Acers, where the effects can be fatal, as the attack stops the trees breaking dormancy.

Prunus varieties are the worst for ‘Gummosis’ or ‘stem canker’. Pruning of trees in wet weather must also be avoided.
